Descriptions
For the provision of community chronic pain services across the city of Leeds. Chronic pain is defined as pain that lasts for more than 12 weeks. Approximately 18 % of the population are currently affected by moderate to severe chronic pain. It has a considerable impact on quality of life, resulting in significant suffering and disability. While in many cases it is accepted that a cure is unlikely, the impact on quality of life, mood and function can be significantly reduced by appropriate measures. Chronic pain not only has an impact on affected individuals and their families, it also has substantial economic costs.Whilst a proportion of patients will require specialist secondary and tertiary care pain services, the majority of patients are able to be managed in the community or primary care.
