EV Charging Fast Project (via LEVI funding)
Descriptions
The main objective of the project is to procure a minimum of 300 fast charging points to meet the projected increase in demand for charging points in the borough over the next two years. The council has been awarded £1.2m for funding new EV charging under the Department for Transport’s LEVI (Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure) scheme. One of the scheme’s essential requirements to access the funding is for local authorities to form partnerships to purchase at scale and ensure value for money for public funding. LBTH has partnered with the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham to access the LEVI funding. This will fund a minimum of 300 fast chargers and 10 rapid chargers for Tower Hamlets, and 20 rapid chargers for Barking and Dagenham. The Council’s strategic plan explicitly sets out the commitment to increase the number of charging points across the borough to meet this increased demand and encourage the further adoption of electric vehicles. Tower Hamlets will be the lead borough the procurement will be for chargers in both boroughs.
