South Western Railway (SWR) are embarking on a programme of upgrades to the Island Line on the Isle of Wight. The works are to be delivered as a Design and Build contract.As part of the works, all current rolling stock will be retired and replaced by new third rail trains supplied by others.A series of infrastructure upgrades will be carried out to accommodate these new trains and additional infrastructure will be added to implement a new, more frequent timetable together with improvements to current equipment to improve reliability.
