The Chapter of Durham Cathedral is seeking to appoint an experienced contractor to deliver the main contract works for the new nave lobbies project at Durham Cathedral which represents the final part of the open treasures project.The works will likely comprise the creation of 2nr glazed lobbies to the North and South entrances to the Cathedral Nave including new foundations, ramps, associated M&E alterations, specialist lighting installations and conservation of historic carved stonework and conservation of the 12th century doors.It is proposed that new structural glass lobbies will appear like “exhibition display cases”, enclosing the entire carved stone Romanesque portals to the North and South doors. Sloped floor access will be required from the North Lobby down to church floor level.
