In the borough of Bexley there are 2 standalone Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) services, one is located at Queen Mary's Hospital, Sidcup and is open 24/7 and the other is located at Erith District Hospital (EDH) and is open seven days a week between the hours of 08:00-22:00. They provide walk-in NHS service for patients whose condition is urgent enough that they cannot wait for the next GP appointment but who do not need emergency treatment at the emergency department (ED). It is led and staffed by GP's/Associate Specialists, working alongside Emergency and Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Health Care Assistants and Primary Care Assistant Practitioners. There are facilities to x-ray limbs for suspected fractures Monday - Friday 08:00hrs-22:00hrs (QMS) and 08:00-16:00 (EDH), this service is provided by Darent Valley Hospital (DVH). Our vision in Bexley is to create a simplified integrated urgent and emergency care pathway where patients are confident about where to go for treatment e.g. minor illness/injury, urgent or emergency - right service, right place, right time, as well as promoting self-care and social prescribing. Interoperability between systems is a key requirement for the new service. The service will offer holistic, consistent quality of care, will be financially sustainable and will continually evolve to meet the changing urgent care needs of the local population. The UTC will support and manage the urgent care needs of the local population by working effectively with other urgent and emergency care providers such as NHS 111, primary care, community, mental health, End of Life, social, voluntary and acute care services.
