Request for Information for The Manufacture of Sea Wall Blocks
Descriptions
Lewes District Council are responsible for the management and maintenance of the cliff foot sea defences at Peacehaven, East Sussex. The sea defences are approximately 2.7km long and are accessible by two ramps cut into the cliffs. The ramps are constructed for vehicular access and there is a promenade/splash deck running the length of the defences. The defences were constructed in phases from 1970s to the 1990s. Attached are plans that illustrate defences. The sea wall is faced with sacrificial blocks that are faced with large flints within a cement/granite dust complex. The Council is seeking to undertake future repairs where appropriate using these blocks the dimensions of the blocks are set out in the attachment. Where necessary the repairs may have to be by pour of mass concrete using reinforcement. Normally we undertake a repairs survey in spring to identify works and seek quotes with awarding of contract to undertake works in late summer. Except in emergencies, we tend to undertake repairs predominantly from September to October. Repairs are undertaken working with the tides, consideration of the weather and sea state. At this stage we are seeking to ascertain who can manufacture these blocks before developing a specification and procurement process.
