Descriptions
Aberglasney Restoration Trust is a charitable trust set up in 1994 to purchase, restore and preserve for the public benefit, the derelict house and gardens atAberglasney. The Trust became the legal owner of Aberglasney in 1995.The house at Aberglasney dates from around 1450 with major additionshroughout the centuries until 1840. Following the split of the estate through anumber of sales, the house fell into a state of disrepair during the 1970s. Thebuilding’s exterior has been restored and made safe and three relatively minorphases of interior works have seen the restoration of four ground floor roomsand the creation of the central courtyard garden (the ninfarium) below a glassroof. The rooms on the ground floor are already in seasonal use as venues for artexhibitions and courses and the Trust derives commission income from theexhibition sales. The restoration will enable exhibitions to be staged withimproved facilities and also extend the season in which these events can beheld. The current proposals include an internal restoration of un-restored areas of the mansion. The main hall and the audio visual room will be restored to their former grandeur with intricate cornicing and the reinstatement of the grand staircase. The East wing will be restored and will include for the provision of a lift installation to provide access for all throughout the house. Toilet areas will also be introduced into the restoration proposals as there are currently no toilet facilities within the building.Funding has been sourced for the further restoration of the Mansion via bothWEFO and CADW, together with monies from the Trust themselves who nowwish to appoint a contractor to carry out the works. It is the aim of this process to select a main contractor to carry out therestoration works within the main house at Aberglasney.
