CC10835 - Mid Calder Weir Fish Bypass

Descriptions

The aim of the project is to provide passage for fish at the site of Mid Calder Weir. The existing weir poses a barrier for the upstream migration of fish. The works involve the construction of a reinforced concrete fish pass through the weir on the River Almond, along with associated eel passes and landscaping works. The works are located in a sensitive and challenging river environment. The works should be carried out in a way to reduce the risk of pollution to the water environment. The creation of a suitable dry working area will be a critical aspect in that regard. This contract contains the following main works components: - Formation of construction access to the weir - Formation of a dry working area for fish pass construction - Construction of a reinforced concrete fish pass primarily formed using precast concrete elements - Construction of a coarse debris screen - Construction of two eel passes - General reinstatement and landscaping The contract will be delivered through the NEC4 Engineering & Construction Contract (NEC4 ECC) with a single contractor. The contract will be for 16 weeks (duration of the works)
